Who is Tate, you ask? Well, what a terrific segue to the post's subject: learning more about the main characters in Defy! Let's begin with the main female protagonist, Tate.
The firstborn daughter of Skye and Caleb (the main characters of Foretold: Book Three of the Daughters of Saraqael Trilogy), 17-year-old Tate is adventurous, inquisitive, spontaneous and stubborn. Physically, she's a blend of her parents and bears the coloring of the newest Estilorian class, the Kynzesti. With the ability to see the truth in any lie, the ability to command the element of water, and extensive training in the ways of defense, her character has a strong foundation.
She'll need it.
The main male protagonist in Defy is Zachariah...and he's been my favorite character to write so far! He's cranky, solitary, impatient and unwillingly compassionate. With several millennia under his belt, he's seen just about everything. Still, when Tate enters his life after he's exiled himself for more than fifty years, Zachariah doesn't know what to make of her. She'll turn his life upside-down and make him look more closely than he likes at the choices he's made. In short, she's exactly what he needs.
The supporting cast includes Tate's twin brother, Tiege, and her cousins, Sophia and Clara Kate. Other beloved characters from the Daughters of Saraqael trilogy, Quincy and Ini-herit, also continue their stories. And, of course, Amber, Olivia, Skye, Gabriel, James and Caleb return as their firstborn children begin their own adventures.
I can't wait for readers to meet Tate, Zachariah and the others. It's hard to believe we're just a couple of weeks from release day. Now that you've met the main characters, I'll leave you with the blurb for Defy, and I hope you'll check out the book when April 30th arrives!
